March update

Hello! We have had an exciting month so far!

We have started learning about dinosaurs! Students came up with several research questions to help us focus on our learning. Questions include "What did they eat? Where did they live? How did they protect themselves?" And the famous: "Why did they disappear?"

We have been using a fantastic website for our research: PebbleGo.  This website is available through our school's library website:

We have been learning about what dinosaurs eat. Ask your child what carnivores, herbivores, omnivores, and scavengers eat!

Thank you for your cardboard, feathers, and other donations for our dinosaur creations. There is still time to send in recycled materials, such as cracker or cereal boxes, plastic containers, and paper towel rolls. Please no glass, milk containers, or peanut butter jars. Thank you!

Students have been writing non-fiction books about dinosaurs.  I cannot wait to share what they have done so far with you at conferences!

Speaking of conferences: THANK YOU for signing up! I have sent home confirmations. Please let me know asap if the time does not work for you. I will send home reminders this Wednesday in red folders.

With our flexible literacy groups students have individualized learning goals. With this we have seen tremendous growth across the whole kindergarten! I am very proud of the progress that all students have made.

In math, we have finished learning about 3D shapes.  We are now focusing on counting to 100, writing numbers to 20, adding, and subtracting.

We have also started science! Students are currently learning about describing materials, rough, smooth, soft, hard, etc.  We played a fun "Guess the object" game. Students put their hand in a box. Using their sense of touch they made predictions on what the object was.  Some were easy for most students such as the washcloth and toothbrush. The sandpaper tricked everyone!

In the photograph above, students are using an Osmo system. We currently have one system for our iPads.  The students were amazing in sharing and taking turns today while we were learning a new math game. I would love for our classroom to have an additional system so that more students can use it at a time.  Also, I would love to get additional learning games.  These games promote math, literacy, problem solving, and social skills.  If you wish to donate or know someone who would like to donate our class website is: https://www.donorschoose.org/Mrs.Baltos

I truly enjoy working with your child everyday! They are fun, creative, and an energetic group of learners.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Baltos
